That was a typo but now I am loathe to correct it. I am curious as to what you suppose the sum refers? I had meant for my point to be that MWS was trying to make an either or choice, so the phrase should have been "zero or some". I'll admit I was thinking of zero sum versus non-zero sum but couldn't quite think of how to apply and phrase it. That originally though must have escaped as the typo.

Well, sure, if you give me a few minutes. ;-)

Actually, do you happen to know if there is a WordPress plugin to push posts out to either identi.ca specifically or Laconica generally?

The reason I went with Twitter is twofold. First, other news sites are using it to extremely good effect. I follow the Ars Technica stream which covers all their articles though I only subscribe to a subset of all their available journals.

Secondly, the integration with WordPress. Have a post go out to Twitter without any extra effort is a huge incentive to just wire it in and go for anyone who wants instantaneous updates.

I'll start searching for that plug-in, now...

I saw it go by in my subscription in Google Reader. I'm looking at the raw RSS and see this post as well. Looking at the raw feed, I am noticing it says the post went up at 3:19am this morning which isn't right. I posted it closer to noon, today.

With a traditional publisher involved, if they were concerned with such a risk, they would not have published it. Someone may try to make hay out of that aspect of the book but the practical reality is that this information is almost as easily accessible on its own, anyway. At least with Cory's narrative, he's presenting it in context rather than just publishing a compendium of hacks. I'd go further and suggest that the work offers up a good sampling of legitimate uses of technologies that have often been take to task, unrightly so, as purely tools of attackers.
